Goodnight
Saigon essay
Goodnight
Saigon is a song written in 1982 by Billy Joel about the Vietnamese war against
the North Vietnamese vs. South Vietnamese
Language
features:
We had
no home front, we had the coastlands they had the highlands is a good contrast
that also reminds me of the ANZAC war as well.
We met
as soul mates on Parris Island and left as inmates from an asylum I think is a
metaphor meaning that they came back after the war crazy or almost crazy.
We learned
fast to travel light, our arms were heavy but our bellies were tight means that
they were hungry but had to carry their heavy weapons.
Remember
Charlie remember baker, they left their childhood on every acre I think means that
they probably died and the other soldiers mourn for them (although I think that
baker is a sir name).
